What Type of Service Do You Really Need?

Casey Combest: All of our clients reach a point where they need some help on their podcast. Some clients realize that from the start that the lift and excess energy required is much more than their available time and energy. For others, they start out DIY and the podcast grows or they see the potential for something unique and want to take the quality to another level no matter when someone reaches out.

One of the first questions we receive is, What type of podcast service do I really need? On today's episode, that's what we'll be talking about. By the end of this video, you're gonna have a much better framework for choosing the type of podcast service that best fits your needs, and that will help you only pay for what you need so you don't get ripped off. To answer this question, we're gonna break the different podcast services into four categories: first, White Glove podcast services, second turnkey podcast services, third edit only services, and fourth freelancers.

Let's get started by talking about the White Glove podcast services. These companies are at the highest of the price range, but they have a customer experience where the host doesn't have to do a thing. These companies find the guest, write the questions, record and edit, and distribute the podcast. While most white glove services don't list prices on their site, the information we found showed that these packages start around $10,000 for a few episodes. Certainly more on the higher end of the spectrum.

Second, we have turnkey podcast services like what we do here at Blue Sky Podcasting. These services won't find your guest or write your questions, but they will record, edit and distribute your episodes for you. This is the middle of the road on pricing. Depending on final deliverables, you might pay between 350 to 650 per episode.

Third are the edit only services, or 24 hour turnaround services. These start around $79 per episode and simply provide podcast editing. Nothing more and nothing less. Oftentimes, these services use non-US based editors so that they can keep the cost down, but sometimes you've gotta be careful because that also impacts the quality.

Fourth, you have freelancers that you could use on fiver.com, upwork.com, or Jimmy, who your cousin knows down the street. These freelancers typically only do one of the roles mentioned, and prices vary, but just like anytime you hire a freelancer, the end product rest on their abilities and deficiencies. Additionally, if they decide to do something different, There's no hedge of a team around them to support you if they leave. And you might be asking, where does Blue Sky podcasting fit in the market? Blue Sky podcasting is what you would call a turnkey solution for podcasters. As we write this post, about half of our clients use us for recording, editing, mixing, creating marketing collateral, and distributing their shows. The other half we help in some other part of the process.

I hope this provides you with a much better idea of what type of podcast service you. Please feel free to email if you have any questions, and we certainly be honored to help you with your podcast.
