How to Find Guests for Your Podcast with Kaciny Emile

Casey: Hey, everyone, and welcome to the Blue Sky  podcast. I hope you're having a wonderful day today. We have our very own Kaciny Emile here with us. Kaciny, how are you today?

Kaciny: I'm doing well. And yourself?

Casey: Doing great, I'm doing great. And we have a great topic for the viewers, listeners today, and that is how to find a guest. One, uh, of the things that most as people encounter early on in their show is they're fine. They have a wealth of people that they can contact. But at some point you begin wondering like, hey, who should I contact strategically? As well as running, uh, out of guests. So give them some advice, Kaciny, How should they find guests for their shows?

Kaciny: Yeah, it definitely can seem daunting, but you probably have more people in your back pocket and in your Rolodex, so to speak.

Casey: Kaciny, I think we need to talk about this in your next one on one staff wise.

Kaciny: I do not have a Rolodex, but (laughs)

Casey: You know, so the digital Rolodex. I'm with you, I'm with you.

Kaciny: The first thing that you can do is phone a friend. So, uh, if you don't think that you know people who have great backgrounds, you probably do. If you think that you don't know people who want to talk about their experiences or their businesses, you probably do. So they're probably way more willing to share their thoughts and perspectives on, uh, topics than you would realize. So reach out to them. And if they don't know somebody, if they are not willing to do it, they probably know somebody who is.

Casey: To give us our second tip. That was a wonderful one, Kaciny. Great job.

Kaciny: Yeah. Number, uh, two is ask an expert. One thing that I love is hearing from someone who does it day in, day out. So if I'm going to ask about studio stuff, I'm probably going to tap Casey or someone I know who works in the music industry to talk about owning a recording studio. If I want to know about medical things, I will probably look up like local doctors or nurses or people in the medical field right in my neighborhood, right in my community, and reach out to them, see if they'd be willing to share and talk. You would be so surprised. Chances are these are some people who have been on podcasts. Maybe they're thinking about starting a podcast that they kind of want to get their feet wet. So don't be afraid to reach out to some subject matter experts who are knowledgeable and that will give your podcast.

Casey: Some more credibility too, I think especially the Day of the Influencer. Uh, so many people see that opportunity of being on a show and certainly jump at it. And I think the cool thing about podcasting still is there's this novel feel to it where if I said, Kaciny, uh, I want to feature you on my blog, you might not be quite as prone to be a part. But if I said, hey, do you want to be on my podcast? Usually, uh, that answer is going to be yes, especially if you're trying to build that reputation, uh, for yourself. So land the plane. Give us your last great tip, Kaciny,

Kaciny: Uh, the last one probably seems the scariest, but may pay off the most in the long run. Don't be afraid to meet somebody new, whether that is through a local meetup group or an online Meetup group. There are tons of Facebook groups with people looking for podcast guests, podcast managers, just anything around podcasts. You will probably be able to find someone who's looking for what you have. And another really awesome way to do it. There are now whole websites dedicated to finding guests for your podcasts. One that I really like a lot and use pretty frequently is Matchmaker FM. They do a really good job of breaking up by topic, uh, expert background, location, different guests and different people that you can connect with. Uh, and it's like, I don't want to say, like, Tinder. Let me think about how to say.

Casey: This one sounds good. No, I think that's fine. Uh, I don't think I would unpack it. I think that was great. Just like cool. All right, great. And another one. Uh, I've actually gotten a chance to speak with the guy who started this, but his podcast valet. And, uh, similarly, they do, uh, the opposite. They actually get you on shows. And so there's a lot of great resources. I'm sure if you Googled, uh, any of these topics we're talking about today, you could find a ton of great resources. But Kaciny, thank you so much. This was really helpful. And I know that those listening will find this beneficial as they're searching for their next podcast guest.

Kaciny: I think so too. Thanks, Casey.

Casey: Absolutely. Thank you guys for watching.
